Brief Description:  ASSEMBLED RUDDER FRAME

(1) I Straightened all of the ribs for the rudder using a hand seamer. There was very little straigtening to do. The ribs from Rans are very close to being in the correct configuration and required very little tweeking.
(2) I deburred the edges using a deburr tool purchased from Aircraft Spruce. Rans mentioned polishing the edges. I was not quite shure what that meant. Being a first time builder. I could picture the edges being smooth and free of any roughness that could create problems. But I was not sure of which technique to use. I talked with an EAA Inspector (Mr. Glenn Olsen) who we have an association with at work. He said to use a 320 grit sand paper and run it along the edges until they are free of any roughness. I found the results to be very good and was satisfied with the smoothness of the edge.
(3) I assembled the parts for the Rudder Frame using clecos

NOTE: Glenn also gave me some advice on preparation for priming the aluminum parts. his method is to wash the aluminum part with soap and water to remove the markings, and to clean the surfaces of the aluminum. Then rough the surfaces with a grey (automotive style) Scotch Brite Pad, to promote a better bond for the primer. After roughing the surface, just wipe down with a clean cloth and paint. He said to not wash it again as it could leave a film on the surface, and affect the bond with the primer. An alternate to soap and water, would be to use Acetone as a cleaner. After cleaning he made a point of using a light coat of primer.
